A family estate in the heart of Lanzarote
Three cabins among the trees we watched grow, with Nana, the cats and plenty of peace and quiet.
From my parents’ goats to CabanaLanz
This estate in San Bartolomé is our family home. For many years my parents kept their goats here and made cheese by hand. And it was here, as children, that we planted many of the trees that give you shade today.
Every corner of the estate holds a little piece of that life. The goats lived where Tabaiba Cabin and Drago Cabin stand today, and what is now La Sabina Rural House is where they were milked every day.
When my parents decided to give up the goats, the estate fell silent, and we didn’t want everything we had lived here to be lost. In 2019 we began giving the old buildings a new life, with a very clear dream: to create a greener place that respects nature, where everyone who arrives feels what we feel when we come home. That’s how CabanaLanz was born.
When you sleep in Tabaiba or Drago, you’re sleeping where our goats once slept. We like to think a little of that life is still here.
A green corner on a volcanic island
It hardly ever rains on Lanzarote, and the landscape is mostly ash and rock. Here, though, you’ll sleep among the trees.
Eight Canary Island pines, palm trees and fruit trees: something rare on the island.
No mains electricity or water. Our energy comes from the sun, and our water from the rain we collect in our cistern, plus a water truck when needed. That’s how we live, and how we’ll stay, even if one day we could connect.
No pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and Canary Island plants for the bees.
They wake you up, not the traffic.
Very little light at night, so you can really see the stars.
The airport is 10 minutes away, Timanfaya 30 and Jameos del Agua 35.
Nana and the estate’s cats
Nana is a rescued donkey. When she arrived she was very afraid of people; today she comes out to greet our guests, and you can give her a carrot and stroke her. Her paddock is right next to the cabins.
She shares the estate with Charlie and Michi, two very friendly cats who often keep you company on the terrace, and Blanquita, who is shyer. We just ask you not to buy food for them: they’re well looked after.
